About Us
In India currently, one out of 5 girl children die before attaining the age of 5.
As a nation, India prides itself on being one of the oldest civilizations. We do not endorse violence and believe in an equitable claim to human rights. Yet despite our ideals, the statistics that talk of the treatment of the girl child in India are appalling.
Nanhi Chhaan believes in the importance of recognizing the girl child as essential for humanity and considers it the right of every girl child, to be able to live her life with dignity.

Historically, trees are important to India’s culture, having always been associated with wisdom and immortality and providing shelter to the country’s millions. India’s commitment to increase our forest cover from 21% to 32% has remained a distant dream, with our forest cover reducing each year by 0.1% instead of going up.
The planet faces a range of problems and the resulting violent weather changes, loss of livelihoods, rapidly decreasing supply of drinking water and rising ocean levels are but one of the many devastating impacts we will suffer if we do not work together to being to reverse the state of the environment as it stands today.
As global citizens, we know that climate change does not consider the boundaries of country or class. Carbon dioxide, regardless of where it is produced, is distributed evenly throughout the global atmosphere.
Nanhi Chhaan’s commitment to future and present generations is to restore a much-needed balance, by reducing the impact of global warming by encouraging the plantation of trees and the distribution of saplings. Nanhi Chhaan believes that the nurture of each sapling into a tree is symbolic to the life of the girl child.
Through Nanhi Chhaan, each sapling that is planted carries a special commitment to respecting the rights of the girl child to a life with dignity and her right to nurture and develop to her fullest potential.

The Nanhi Chhaan - Impact Team
Nanhi Chhaan believes in the positive power of people by encouraging partnerships across the globe. Different forms of faith are denominators that bind us all. Faith in humanity, faith in religion or simply faith in the ability to create change. Nanhi Chhaan channels the positive power of faith to create positive partnerships on these twin issues.
The foundation brings together stakeholders who commit to increasing our global tree cover as well as advancing girls and women’s rights.
